Alpha Photonic Inc. (API) proposes to build the first wavelength insensitive, high speed and high sensitivity photovoltaic detector. Operating fundamentally different from any high-speed detector used today, this innovative detector offers picosecond response time, large detector area for high sensitivity, and insensitive to different incident wavelengths through ingenious band-gap engineering. Because the new device does not require a bias voltage and a load resistor in generating the amplified signal as conventional p-i-n diode, and because it is a photovoltage detector which consumes less electrical power and generates less heat, it can be easily integrated to provide a much simplified and realistic high-density optoelectronic integrated circuitry.
