The leading edge of ITS technology is the application of geo-spatial technologies to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, safety and security of transit. Firt came the application of global positioning systems integrated into geographic information systems. Lastly, remotely sensed imagery from high-resolution digital sensors on satellites, and real-time video from mini-unmanned aerial vehicles have been integrated into ITS technology. The latter technology, MAVs, provide applications to transit security and safety for fixed guideway transit in addition to enhanced analysis for increased transit efficiency and effectiveness.
