The feasibility of providing low cost remote passenger baggage identification is studied. Radio identification tags are emphasized. Identification of all luggage passing a portal as well as searching for a specific piece of luggage are addressed. Detection equipment as well as low cost tags are considered in conjunction with the airport baggage handling environment.Anticipated results/potential commerical applications of results:It is anticipated that the feasibility of low cost electronically read baggage tags will be shown. This would allow the development of a practical passenger baggage match system.
