Feasibility of using microprocessor based personal token devices inductively coupled for bi-directional information flow will be studied for transit fare collection and accounting. A simple microprocessor based user token will be developed principally to test coupling and software concepts. Hardware and software interfaces to existing turnstile equipment will be studied. Research on appropriate reader/ writer stations which could be used for stationary turnstiles, moving vehicles (buses) and private vehicle entrance/exit (parking lots) will be performed. Typical software which could be used for a three mode bus, turnstile, parking lot - system will be developed. Working model suitable for limited field test evaluation along with software and suggestions for basic field test protocols. Two fare collection units including interface for use with existing electrically controlled turnstiles and one fare accounting station will be made. Also, 20 tokens suitable for field test. Associated technical documentation.
