Phase I year
1999
Phase I Amount
$50,000
The purpose of the proposed project is to develop an Internet based job opportunity network and support systems for the disabled. The web site will include three main areas: employment, reference materials, and avenues for social support. The site will be compliant to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines in order to be compatible with assistive devices. It is anticipated that a larger number of disabled persons would be able to be employed if they could work from their home. The job database, resume posting, and interviewing forums will focus on the category of jobs that can be performed from a remote location. The reference area will allow the user to search through products and services. Users may also post their products or services for sale. The social support area will provide opportunities for discussion through chat rooms and pen pal mail, delivery of special video training or cultural events, classified ad postings and entertainment. The web site will be designed for use by persons with a variety of disabilities. For individuals that are homebound, this provides an exciting outlet for interaction and growth. Phase I will develop and launch the website. Phase II will focus on advanced features.Summary of Anticipated Results and Implications:It is anticipated that the web site will have several different commercial uses. The first is the development of a job networking database for employers and employees. The second use is to provide a vehicle for promotion and distribution of products and services. A long term application will be to provide delivery of videos for special training or social functions. The site will be funded and commercially viable through employer postings, product advertisement, and order processing fees.

Phase II

Contract Number: ----------
Start Date: 00/00/00    Completed: 00/00/00
Phase II year
2000
Phase II Amount
$300,000
The purpose of the proposed project is to further develop an Internet based job opportunity network and social support web site for the disabled. The goal of Phase II is to enhance the site in order to increase the use rates and thereby increase the revenue potential of the venture in order to become self-sustaining. Enhancements will be made by expanding the information sources, content and features. The web site currently includes three main areas; employment, reference materials, and avenues for social support. It is anticipated that a larger number of disabled persons would be able to be employed if they could work from their home. The employment section will provide current job postings from around the country as well as new job search tools. Networks of universities, rehabilitation sites, and partner web sites will be developed in order to expand the reference area with a broader array of products, educational programs, and service postings. Other new features will include news updates, events, videos and finance information. The web site is designed for use by persons with a variety of disabilities and is compliant to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. For individuals that are homebound, this provides an exciting outlet for interaction and growth. Summary of Anticipated Results and Implications: It is anticipated that the web site will have several different commercial uses. The first is the development of a job networking database for employers and employees. The second use is to provide a vehicle for promotion and distribution of products and services. As data rates increase, a long-term application will be to provide delivery of videos for special training or social functions. The site will be funded and commercially viable through advertisement fees, product postings, and order processing fees.
