The Optacon direct-translation reading machine for the blind has been widely disseminated in schools. The "OptaconPlus" output system will allow the Optacon to interface to a wide range of typing, computing, and printing devices, thereby extending the Optacon from a read-only system to a notetaking, editing, printing, and electronic information retrieval system. The technical feasibility of OptaconPlus will be investigated.
