C56-34a-272470 Klystrons are a crucial component for most particle accelerators. Specifically, high average power or high continuous wave power klystrons are required for superconducting accelerators as well as energy and environmental applications. Besides high average power, high efficiency and cost now become increasingly important to lower acquisition and operating cost of accelerator systems. Calabazas Creek Research Inc. proposes to develop a high efficiency, high CW power, multi- beam klystron for advanced accelerators and colliders. The program will utilize novel design methods for high electronic efficiency and multi-beam technology to efficiently generate high RF power at relatively low operating voltages. Klystrons are used in many applications, including medical and industrial particle accelerators, radar, communication, and defense systems. Recently, particle accelerators have been considered for energy and environmental applications as well. Increased efficiency coupled with high average power at low operating voltage will result in less expensive devices and expanded use of such devices.
