Large scale data storage and processing systems are needed to store, retrieve, distribute, and process data from nuclear physics experiments conducted at large facilities, such as Brookhaven National Laboratory’s (BNL) Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF). We are proposing development of reception, storage, transmission, and management of large data sets produced with high density digitizers (32 channels per board) which are being developed by SkuTek. The products will target the high speed experiments, where the large data sets will increase the discovery potential. The same technology will also improve the performance of our digitizers offered to the broad commercial market. We will develop a prototype system that will demonstrate the key aspects of the envisioned final system. We will develop system components operating on the local network where the digitizers and other data sources are located. We will also prototype a general framework for distribution to and retrieval from a HPC facility using the extant connection from the local network. Future applications will include nuclear physics, high energy physics, nuclear astrophysics, homeland security, and education. Public will benefit from our electronics helping fundamental research conducted at the National Laboratories.

Large scale data storage and processing systems are needed to store, retrieve, distribute, and process data from experiments conducted at Nuclear Physics facilities such as Brookhaven National Laboratory’s (BNL) Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC),the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF), or the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). Management of large data sets will be required to support the experiments performed at these facilities. We are proposing development of reception, storage, transmission, and management of large data sets produced with high performance digitizers such as 32 the channels per board units which are being developed by SkuTek under the DOE funding in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory. We will develop firmware and software tools to address the stated problem. We will develop the reception, real-time monitoring, storage, and management of the data sets produced with high performance devices equipped with fast streaming interfaces such as 1G or 10G Ethernet. Future applications will include nuclear physics, high energy physics, nuclear astrophysics, homeland security, and education. Public will benefit from our electronics helping fundamental research conducted at the National Laboratories.
