Freedom Photonics will develop a novel, radiation hard, rugged, photonic link with Terabit per second bandwidth, which will allow data extraction from the detector systems used in high-energy and particle physics. The problem is being addressed through rad-hard photonic component design, leveraging scalability in capacity and cost through commercial foundry enabled CMOS silicon photonic technologies. Phase I will be used to prove the feasibility of the approach proposed. Several different architectures for the links and components used will be evaluated. Link demonstration will be performed. This technology can be applied in data center and telecommunication links (commercial or government), in radar antenna remoting, electronic warfare.
