In this Phase 1 SBIR proposal, Vuronyx Technologies proposes to develop acetylperoxyborate (APB) powders for disinfection of Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) so that they can be reused. APB powders are stable, active-oxygen containing compounds that release peracetic acid upon dissolution in water. As explained in this proposal, the use of a APB powder disinfectant has the following advantages over other methods to disinfect PPEs: a) The use of disinfectant in a powder format reduces supply chain, transportation, and storage issues, b) APB powders generate peracetic acid (PAA) that has one of the best disinfectant performance against other liquid disinfectants, c) It is a low-tech solution that can be used by both institutions and individuals without needing any form of equipment, and d) It does not generate harmful residues upon decomposition.
