Warehouse distribution management is a time and labor-intensive process. There are numerous process challenges, and unavoidable delays, changes in weather, new accounting procedures, employee retention, to name just a few. This does not account for the standard process of tracking the locations of goods, including new goods into the warehouse, or changes in demand. This results in a massively complex and interconnected system, that is difficult if not impossible for humans to keep track of. Given the complications in this system there are often opportunities for improving the effectiveness of a warehouse. To help find, and take advantage of these opportunities, ATC-NY will develop WHAM, a WareHouse Ai for Management and optimization. WHAM will enable DLA warehouses to identify processes and procedures that can be changed to optimize warehouse production, in addition WHAM will be trained to manage a warehouse in the absence of human oversight. WHAM is the next step in warehouse management, in a world where twenty-four-hour operations are expected, but everyone can be sent home overnight, the need for automated oversight has never been greater.
