In a multiple patient situation, the medics need all the help they can get. Monitoring several patients is a difficult task, and associating the vital signs data with the right patient is crucial. Providing medics with a tool to assist in this task can greatly reduce their workload and lead to better decisions of treatment or evacuation, thus reducing combat related soldier deaths.To address this need, SA Photonics has developed the concept for a Finger Pulse Oximeter System (FPOS). The FPOS measures the patients vital signs, associates the data with the patients fingerprint, and automatically transfers the data for up to 40 patients to a medics End User Device (EUD), to be integrated into the patients electronic health record.The basis of the SA Photonics oximeter system is measuring peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels in the blood stream.The oximeter readings are used to create a PPG waveform, which can be analyzed to determine other patient health conditions such as pulse rate.The SA Photonics oximeter system measures SpO2 by quantifying red and infrared light transmission levels through the finger.A fingerprint sensor used to identify each patient supports logging the vital signs into electronic medical health records.
