The purpose is to improve the sensitivity and producibility of the Electro Optic Transducer thru the use of advanced electro optic crystals and related configuration changes. This will allow for greater airplane fiber system loses, more rugged crystal configuration, less critical optical alignment, and more latitude for crystal mounting. Rockwell Science Center will provide the crystals on a cost neutral basis. This is related to TRP95-04 proposal. Anticipated

Benefits:
The cost savings from changing sense and control systems in both military and commercial airplanes from shielded copper wire to fiber can be counted in the billions of dollars. This development coupled with TRP95-04; Fiber Optic Actuator Bus will make that change possible.
