R3E (R Cubed Engineering, LLC) proposes to provide the Army with multiple low cost Micro IFF options in phase I to fully meet and exceed all SBIR goals. Optimized options include: A. Modifications to existing the R3E transponders designs: 1) Lowest NRE and time to market, 2)Spiral development for lower cost and SWAP over time, 3) complete redesign to provide least cost and SWAP B. Performance specification options can be tailored for 500, 250, or 158 W with and without diversity C. All options include a full tri-band approach enabling current and future upgrade options currently under development or in rule making with AIMS and the FAA. D. All options include the ability to be operated stand alone with only mechanical interface to the aircraft, to be carried as a partially integrated payload or fully integrated. R3E will demonstrate on a small UAS of Army choice in the phase I Option a deliverable Mode 1,2,3A/C/S, ES, UAT, 5 transponder that meets or exceeds SBIR goals with a 3 oz. stand-alone unit, only marginally short of the SBIR volume threshold. This approach will allow exceeding all SBIR goals with low technical risk in phase II.
