Yankee Scientific proposes to develop a rugged and lightweight Compact Sanitation Center (CSC) for the washing, rinsing and sanitation of kitchen wares in highly expeditionary military field feeding applications. Our approach is to develop a lightweight steam generator that can deliver steam to spargers on each of the three sinks. By using this approach the sink water heating efficiency is increased relative to that possible by transferring heat through the sink walls and a single JIFF burner can be used to heat all three sinks. Yankee has successfully used this concept in a sink water heating application using the M2 burner. This early work demonstrated the efficient and reliable heating possible with this approach. A goal of this CSC package is to be compact enough to be stowed inside a HMMWV as it tows an Assault Kitchen system. Yankee has identified a straightforward approach for nesting the sinks for pack out. By tapering each side wall outward by 2 degrees the sinks can nest within each other with only two inches between each sink bottom. In addition to the steam sparger and the nesting sinks, Yankee will implement a discharge water grease trap.

Yankee Scientific proposes to develop a rugged and lightweight Compact Sanitation Center (CSC) System for the washing, rinsing and sanitation of kitchen wares in highly expeditionary military field feeding applications. Our approach is to develop a lightweight Steam Generator that can deliver low-pressure steam to Condensing Heat Exchangers (CHX) in the Wash, Rinse and Sanitation sinks.By using this approach a single Military Appliance Burner (MAB) can heat the water in all three sinks.During the SBIR Phase I effort Yankee successfully demonstrated that this quiet, efficient and reliable approach is able to heat water in the sinks to the required temperatures within the allowed time period.A goal of this CSC package is to be compact enough to be stowed inside a HMMWV as it tows a Field Kitchen system.Yankee has fabricated sinks, with walls tapering outward at a 2.5 degree angle, which demonstrated that the sinks can nest within each other and meet the pack-off target volume. In addition to the Steam Generator, CHXs and the nesting sinks, Yankee will develop an advanced grease separation technology for the discharged greywater that uses less space than existing settling based approaches.
