Avionic Instruments proposes to investigate the feasibility of a 2.5KVA static inverter for use in ground mobile vehicles. This device will be capable of converting vehicle standard 24VDC to either 120VAC or 240VAC at 60Hz single phase. The output voltage will be selectable. In addition, two or three units can be connected to operate in parallel in order to provide 5KVA or 7.5KVA, respectively. The 2.5KVA inverter will be lightweight, low cost and designed for use in a typical ground mobile vehicle environment. The technology proposed for use in the 2.5KVA inverter provides a low distortion true sinewave output.

Benefits:
Avionic Instruments has previously provided power conversion equipment for a wide variety of ground fixed and ground mobile applications. The advantages and disadvantages of an inverter with a dedicated output (either 120VAC or 240VAC) are known. Development of a universal inverter would effectively provide two inverters for the cost of one. A single inverter capable of providing a 120 or 240VAC, 60Hz, 2.5KVA output from standard DC sources, with parallel systems of up to 7500VA would benefit the Army in a number of ways. It would reduce the number of units the depots would need to maintain and/or hold in inventory. Being modular in nature, system support costs would be reduced by stocking individual power modules (versus stocking higher power units). Designed to meet operation in hostile military physical and stringent EMC environments, this single module could be utilized in applications ranging from simple maintenance to Secure C3I and IEWCS platforms. The commercial version of this device could be utilized for public service vehicles and telephone/cable service vehicles. A less robust version may also be applicable to boat and recreational vehicles

Avionic Instruments proposes to design, build, and qualify two 2.5 KVA selectable output voltage static inverters for use in ground mobile vehicles. This device will convert the 24VDC NATO input to a 2500VA, single phase, 60Hz, selectable output of either 120VAC or 240VAC. The unit will be capable of parallel operation of up to 10000VA. The inverter will provide a source of pure sinewave power under severe hostile environmental conditions.
