Phase I

Contract Number: ----------
Start Date: ----    Completed: ----
Phase I year
1994
Phase I Amount
$69,993
FGM will build the Cartographic Animation System (CAS) using anexisting GIS display system (MacCIDSS) which FGM has developed as a basis, and integrate commercial animation tools extended to address geospatialdata. Since MacCIDSS already displays temporal data over standard DMA-typemaps, GFM will simply add the animation capability needed to produce theCAS. FGM will create a cartographic media type to handle the geospatialdata. Temporal data is already associated with GIS data in MacCIDSS. Thecombination of these two elements will provide a CAS which significantlyexceeds the Phase I requirements. FGM will build a generic cartographicmodel CAS using object-oriented technology to ensure the CAS can be easilyadapted to other applications.

Phase II

Contract Number: ----------
Start Date: ----    Completed: ----
Phase II year
1995
Phase II Amount
$591,204
FGM is developing a Cartographic Animation System (CAS) which allows animation of information from Geographic Information Systems over standard DMA map products. The CAS extends the animation coordinate system to allow geographic as well as Cartesian coordinates. FGM built powerful data entry and manipulation tools which allow the user to easily create complex animations. The CAS has a tool which allows the user to create movies from animation clips, including transition effects between clips and stereo sound channels. Based on use of MacCIDSS (a command and control GIS developed by FGM), FGM build a Phase I CAS which far exceeds normal Phase I achievements. The Phase I CAS can be used for marketing, user demonstrations, and feedback. During Phase II, FGM will complete a deployable CAS which: finalizes the user interface; incorporates additional user requirements, DMA products, and GIS interoperability; provides a powerful animation tool to the user. FGM has already identified and contacted interested potential customers, including CNN and the Gettysburg National military Park.
