The ojective of this Phase I effort will be to study existing three dimensional modeling capabilities currently in use by commercial and military organizations, and those new capabilities from related fields that have potential for meeting the Army's particular simulation requirements. All aspects of hardware and software will be explored, culminating in a recommended design approach for a Three Dimensional modeling Station. An extremely beneficial by-product from this work will be a data base, created from the survey information, of current hardware, software, and data sources to aid in the configuration of many different types of graphics workstations, tailored to any particular application.
Benefits: This efort should first produce a recommended configuration from a three dimensional modeling station immediately usable by the Army. Secondly, depending on their simulation applications, other branches of the military could benefit from the same modeling station in accomplishing their missions. Finally, the data base that is proposed could be further expanded to include other hardware and software products and used by military and commercial organizations to quickly tailor a workstation configuration to any application.
