Existing battery storage technology is not sustainable, and the supply chain relies on foreign sources. Lead-acid batteries are toxic with low energy density, while lithium batteries are dangerous and use scarce materials. Urban Electric Powerâs rechargeable (UEP) zinc-manganese dioxide batteries are energy dense use safe and nontoxic materials. The UEP battery technology is versatile and scalable to adapt to the changing energy needs of the warfighter. This Phase I effort proposes a collaboration with CUNY Energy Institute to determine feasibility for a follow-on effort to adapt our technology for the U.S. Air Force
