Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) MQ-9 are essential assets for U.S. military and allied forces to observe events on a battlefield in real-time. Currently the MQ-9 uses Ni-Cd batteries that require relatively complex maintenance including discharge and recharge cycles that are keys to ensuring their health and functionality. Ni-Cd batteries reliability and maintainability have increased the maintenance cost and most importantly aircraft downtime. EIC is proposing to develop a safe, no-maintenance Li-ion battery as a drop-in replacement for the current Ni-Cd battery on the MQ-9.
