The goal of the Somewear Tactical Satellite Platform SBIR is to provide airmen with increased situational awareness and information to improve safety and operational efficiency especially in disadvantaged positions. Somewear does this by providing a tactical satellite communication device that interfaces with a modern smartphone running ATAK and can securely and reliably share personal location information, text messages and other mission critical information in austere environments. In addition to increased situational awareness and information sharing for operations across air and land, this proposal aims to directly increase personnel safety by equipping airmen with a quick action SOS trigger that transmits an alert to leadership and the proper tactical unit over a satellite network. This project will modify the commercial satellite solution, the Somewear Global Hotspot and its software components, to be ready for tactical use.
