Phase I

Contract Number: FA9451-19-P-0659
Start Date: 6/20/2019    Completed: 6/20/2020
Phase I year
2019
Phase I Amount
$149,981
For this Phase I proposal, MZA and Etegent Technologies Inc. have teamed to leverage our complementary skill sets and put together a comprehensive force emulation solution for ELTF. MZA has extensive experience in the quantification and analysis of DE aero-effects data. This includes pressure loading and finite element analysis to predict the jitter performance beam directors, including ways to abstract complex disturbance phenomenon down to reduced order models for system performance prediction and evaluation. Etegent Technologies compliments these skills by with their expertise in vibration emulation and mechanical response characterization. Our combined efforts will be directed towards using existing aero-effects data to develop method for reducing generic disturbance data to a reduced order model that can be input to highly-configurable force emulator system. We will use a FEM model of a surrogate beam director to show the validity of this reduced order disturbance model, and perform a proof-of-concept test with a single actuator to show our ability to successfully emulate aero-mechanical forces. The last part of our Phase I effort will be preliminary design tasks that can feed into a prototype model. This will include studies of suitable actuators and sizing of a system from space limitations at ELTF.vibration testing,Hardware-in-the-loop,shaker table,ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING,force emulator,AERODYNAMIC

Phase II

Contract Number: FA9451-22-C-A002
Start Date: 4/26/2022    Completed: 7/12/2024
Phase II year
2022
Phase II Amount

For this Phase II proposal, MZA and Etegent Technologies Inc. have teamed to leverage our complementary skill sets and put together a comprehensive force emulation solution for DE systems. MZA has extensive experience in the quantification and analysis of DE aero-effects data. This includes pressure loading and finite element analysis to predict the jitter performance beam directors. Etegent Technologies compliments these skills by with their expertise in vibration emulation and mechanical response characterization. We will design and fabricate a prototype force emulator for sub-scale DE systems. The system will accept user supplied pressure field data and employ a suite of linear actuators to impart realistic forcing in the system. We will undergo a standard SRR, PDR, CDR cycle to select components and design mounting structure. Additional algorithm development will take Phase I technology and expand its use for a multi degree of freedom system. The prototype will be assembled and tested at MZA Dayton using a surrogate beam director provided by the University of Notre Dame. Finally, system will be delivered and demonstrated at the Environmental Laser Test Facility (ELTF) using the HARDROC sub-scale beam director.
