The proposed SBIR work is centered on the integration of Ascentia Imagings AccuArc ultra-precision angular measurement sensors systems and a handheld NDE tool.In operation, one or more AccuArc receivers will be integrated on a NDE tool and a collection of Tx will be mounted at known locations on an aircraft.As the operator moves through the measurement volume as long as at least two Tx are in the FOV of the AccuArc Rx, the system should be able to estimate the 6 DOF orientation of the NDE to < 1mm.As the angular precision of the AccuArc is determined by the detected SNR, placing more Tx or using higher power Tx enable orientation precision to be independently specified for particular system configurations.Depending on the specific operational requirements, for highest possible orientation precision with the fewest components it may be desirable to consider use of non-eye safe Tx.Proper training and/or potential eye protection for the operator could ensure health and safety.;

Benefit:
The anticipated commercial results of Phase 1 will lead two important outcomes:A new software tool to help us and our customers perform tradespace analysis for their systemsA clear path to Class I, Division 2, and CE / ATEX certification for our products, which also means ruggedized systems for our industrial customers

Phase II

Contract Number: FA8650-17-C-5069

Phase II year
2017
Phase II Amount

The proposed project centers of the development of an ultra-precision 6DOF localization system that has < 1mm precision, no moving parts, no tripods, is light weight and is low power. Our systems are monolithic with no moving parts, very low-cost and with a precision dependent on system SNR. The new system will be built around Ascentia Imagings Accu-Arc angle measurement sensors. A significant aspect of this work will be related to modifying existing components to achieve a very wide FOV receivers, 3D transmitters and new low-power analog and digital electronics.
