Greater cycle life at higher energy densities are required from Li-ion batteries to address the demands of military satellite systems. A new high capacity cathode material will be developed and a novel cell design strategy will be demonstrated with the potential to double the current usable energy density of Li-ion cells for extended cycle life applications.

Benefit:
The technology will benefit multiple military power applications including satellites and war-fighter support systems. Commercial applications include use in advanced battery systems for HEV's and PHEV's.
