Anticipated future space-based mission capabilities will include high-powered platforms supporting high-bandwidth communication. To supply power to these missions higher efficiency solar cells can reduce the mass, area, stowed volume and the cost of the solar arrays. ELI propose to develop Ultra high efficiency multi junction solar cells for >37% AM0 efficiency using novel design and growth approaches. In phase I, we will demonstrate single junction lattice matched device. Phase I work will establish base for >37% AM0 efficiency that will be realized in follow on Phase II work. We propose both Monolithic and Hybrid approach to achieve the proposed results.

Benefit:
High performance, cost effective solar cells and modules have many applications in both military and commercial sectors. These applications include but are not limited to space craft, satellites, submarines, electrical vehicles, residential cogenerators, and many remote field units. Many U.S. companies are interested in high performance, cost effective solar cells and modules, including aerospace industries, utility firms, auto makers, defense industries, and many others.
