The objectives of this proposal are (a) to build a data sharing mechanism that can be deployed across diverse functional boundaries; and (b) to do so in such a way that existing software, databases, or platforms can interface to the resultant system with minimal modification. This effort combines Web Services and Ontologies to accomplish its research objectives.

Benefits:
This project has far reaching implications in data sharing among participants with diverse backgrounds, objectives, authority, and security concerns. Commercially, the project will generate a unique tool with anticipated markets within the DOD, particularly in the context of Homeland Security as well as in the private sector. Additionally, we anticipate contributing to the research arena by placing ontologies developed as part of this effort in the public domain.
