We will first conduct aircraft vulnerability simulations and analysis of commercial aircraft and identify the least vulnerable/critical fuselage areas. Then continue the simulation and analysis with various increasing levels of IR radiation at these areas of interest to assess missile hit or approach levels. We will analyze the various IR emitters to determine the optimum match of radiated intensities in the various IR missile tracking bands, their effectiveness in the presence of IR MANPDAS IRCCM processing, their ease of installation and operation on large aircraft, and their affordability. Some can and will be implemented covertly. The primary implementation plan to be pursued during this effort is IR Source/Target integration in large aircraft winglets. The postulated system configuration will be integrated and operation initiated within approximately 12 meters of the aircraft engines to ensure it is in the missile field of view. If the optimum postulated system configuration implementation concept is reactive to the threat (i.e., with a threat warning mechanism), special precautions will be implemented to ensure safe operation on the aircraft and for ground personnel. Provide a low cost and low weight, covert pre-emptive defensive IR countermeasure system for protection of commercial and legacy military aircraft. This system would provide a reduced probability of kill against MANPADs weapons used by terrorists or hostile nations. Commercial application would encompass all commercial aircraft worldwide and legacy military aircraft.
