A Phase I investigation is proposed to develop concepts, architectu res and software structures for the high-speed simulation of military communication networks using novel multiprocessing technology. This technology can schedule, manage and synchronize large software applications and is portable among a variety of DSP's and multiprocessors. The system we propose to build is thus capable of working with new processors as they are developed. The project will benefit from a large amount of signal processing, GUI and simulation core technology already in place within ICUCOM that will be made available for use within this effort. A novel combination of Finite-State-Machines and Block-Diagrams developed on prior efforts is expected to provide a new, efficient way of describing multiprocessor operation, as well as implementing efficient network simulations. The results of this Phase I effort should provide the basis for explicit development of a comprehensive multiprocessor accelerator in a Phase II follow on.
