A device for high resolution temperature sensing is described. The device is composed of a solid state Nickel-Silicon Schottky barrier position sensor capable of resolving 1 nm translation. The device can sense variations in current (through optically induced charge mobility) vs. temperature, or it can determine temperature dependent expansions in a bi-metal system. Resolutions at the milli-Kelvin level are obtainable over a wide-range (5-300K). Preliminary results showing 20 times greater position resolution than previously reported are presented.Design specifications for a mobility sensor and a bi-metal device are discussed.
