Industrial and remediation activities requiring emissions control generate tons of contaminated adsorbents each year. A process is proposed that destroys organics either on an adsorption bed in-situ or in a secondary reactor at mild conditions (170-250 degrees C). The process internally heats the adsorbent bed, desorbing the organics from the bed. If a catalyst is added to the adsorbent matrix, the process should enhance the electron transfer needed to oxidize the organics, resulting in a reduced activation temperature for a given catalytic oxidation process.
