Phase I

Contract Number: F41622-89-C-0009
Start Date: 00/00/00    Completed: 00/00/00
Phase I year

We propose a device for capturing single-event picosecond processes using the laser-power-induced interference fringe movement in a nonlinear etalon. This simple device will be able to perform functions which are currently done by streak cameras.

Phase II

Contract Number: F33615-91-C-0601
Start Date: 5/2/91    Completed: 5/2/93
Phase II year
1991
Phase II Amount
$499,587
In Phase I we have determined the feasibility, made experimental design, and demonstrated the physics of a device for capturing dynamic bleaching effects of single shot picosecond laser pulse without using a streak camera. We have determined that such a device can indeed be constructed with existing simple optical components and detector array. In Phase II, we shall improve the laser source, and add another electro-optic shutter for substantial reduction of background leakage for better detection. Pulse shape measurements will be demonstrated, and the numerical modeling, data analysis, and development of the computer code for deconvelotion of the pulse shape will be carried out. Further improvement of temporal resolution, and pulse asymmetry study will also be carried out.
