A method is proposed by which the high performance pbx type of polymer may be modified to effect an improvement in the processability of these polymers for fiber film and matrix resin applications. The methodis designed to improve the solubility. A second potential gain is the possibility of effecting a stable, crosslinking bonding between polymer chains under elevated cure conditions. Phase i research will assess the feasibility of the proposed modification. If successful, the proposed research will also provide a preliminary idea of how the processing and performance properties of pbx polymer systems are affected bythis modification.
