A need exists to improve the current failure rate in complex electrical systems requiring plug-in/plug-out electrical connectors. This research proposes to develop a new cone which is keyed to the female cone for contact alignment. After the contacts are molded into the plug, the contacts are precision ground to zero tolerance relative to angle and diameter as on taper roller bearings.

RAI will use the data developed in the phase I electrical cone connector proposal and develop the required prototype detail drawing to fabricate four prototype connectors. RAI will engage the assistance of a prototype shop to produce the tooling, components and plastic assemblies for the electrical cone connector. RAI Wwill engage the assistance of a test lab to conduct vibration and humidity tests on the electrical cone connector prototype. A test report and final report will be provided.
