A secure, multilevel data storage capability is desired to provide the Navy with data is consolidation, reductions in power, air conditioning, weight, and space requirements aboard vessels, simplified data backup schemes and eliminating time consuming and error prone procedures associated with changing data storage devices for classification reasons. During Phase I, the problem was divided into two parts: identifying requirements and analyzing alternative solutions. Phase I results categorized the requirements into three types of requirements: general, functional, and security requirements. The proposed solution envisions a multilevel network-based proxy server controlling all access to data stored on backend storage servers. During Phase II, TCS will design and test a prototype of the solution proposed in Phase I on a simulated shipboard network (e.g., in a Navy lab environment); initiate and document the process of obtaining formal IA Certification and Accreditation (C&A) for the prototype; and demonstrate the proposed technology, manufacturability, and reliability of the Phase I solution. TCS will follow its Trusted Development Process in building required prototype and leverage its C&A experience to initiate the process of obtaining formal accreditation of the prototype. Finally, TCS will support the Navy in demonstrating the prototype in a Navy laboratory environment.
