Fom soon after the firm was founded (1994), Metastable Instruments became SBIR involved and has remained as such across several agencies. The firm produces a two dimensional adjustable optical wedge designed to steer transmitted light beams without adding astigmatism. Compact, cost-effective, high sensitivity mirror mounts (0.35 arc seconds mirror tilt per degree of actuator rotation in a device only 10 x 10 x 2 cm3). R&D on diode-pumped lasers, especially 1083 nm for hyperpolarizing helium. The firm offers two-dimensional adjustable optical wedge refractive beam steerers. Unlike Risley Wedge beam steerers, these in-line devices offer Cartesian adjustments and complete coverage of the scanned field (no blind spots). R&D on laser cleaning and athermal optics.
