Public Profile

Renamed Scanalytics, Inc., the firm was orginally acquired to become is a subsidiary of publicly traded CSP (NASDAQ symbol CSPI) based in Billerica, MA. Effective July 1, 2005, the assets of Scanalytics Inc. were acquired by BD Biosciences, a division of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company). Scanalytics gives "sight" to computers, by creating software that captures images from digital cameras and extracts information from those images. The firm integrates software into high-performance vision systems specifically to support scientific researchers in biotechnology and life sciences. Scanalytics has had a long tradition of innovations and customer-oriented service. As the company expands, Scanalytics is expected to become an innovations leader in computer-based vision systems. Eventually, medical professionals and scientists from all disciplines will come to rely on the increased productivity offered by imaging systems, and they will turn to Scanalytics to provide the expertise, the products, and the support. Scanalytics is a part of Becton, Dickinson & Co., BD Biosciences - Bioimaging, which is a public company (NYSE symbol, BDX). BD Biosciences, which develops and markets innovative research and clinical tools for the life sciences market, acquired the assets of Scanalytics, Inc. In 1997, the Scanalytics Division of CSP, Inc. was merged with the privately held Signal Analystics Corp., to create Scanalytics, Inc. Scanalytics now has over 6,000 users of its software, including research scientists in the most prestigious life science research institutions all over the world. Scanalytics software products are based on two software platforms: IPLab and Gene Profiler. IPLab is a general purpose image analysis software. Its origins are in the Macintosh, where IPLab has been called "the de facto standard in Macintosh image analysis". We view IPLab as the "Microsoft Windows" of image analysis software. By that we mean that IPLab is a "software platform" upon which applications-specific programs can be built. The reason for this is that IPLab has an architecture which makes it easily extensible by Scanalytics, third party vendors, and customers. Gene Profiler is the backbone of Scanalytics software products oriented towards Genomics. It is widely recognized as the most sophisticated and easy to use software of its kind in the industry. Gene Profiler consists of two parts: a front end which does the image analysis, and a back end which contains a database engine for searching and querying the analysis results tables.
