Sandia Research Corporation ("SRC") was founded to provide creative technology innovation to solve challenges facing US Government customers. The firm uses a wide spectrum of electromagnetic geophysics techniques for location of abandoned underground mines, subsurface voids, and tunnels. Other methods are used to detect near-surface buried objects. SRC developed a Salinity Surveyor System to accurately map soil salinity levels in agricultural fields. The firm has been active in underground operations, including mining, tunnels, and natural caverns. Humans and machines have to successfully function in these often-challenging environments. This requires specialized tools, training, tactics, and procedures. SRC has developed through-the-earth communications equipment and underground mapping tools to meet the challenges of the underground environment. In addition, Sandia Research conducts research and development on advanced weapon systems. This includes designing and building electronics for extreme shock environments, advanced signal processing methods, explosive properties, and the development of network centric weaponry. SRC is also developing mathematical tools for the measurement and prediction of complex team behavior, including dynamical modeling of teams and team communications, content-free communications flow analysis and the next-generation of the graph-theoretic Pathfinder method.
