In March 2017 Artci Sand was acquired by fellow SBIR-involved firm Peregrine Semiconductor, itself now a Murata company and the founder of RF SOI (silicon on insulator). With offices also in Nashua NH and close ties to MIT, Arctic Sand had been commercializing power conversion technologies to reduce energy consumption and enable broad technology reach to the consumer and industrial sectors. Efficient power conversion can bring value to numerous markets with power conversion products, such as increased battery life in mobile devices, more power generated by solar cells, extended driving range of electric and hybrid vehicles, reduced standby losses in consumer electronics, and reduced electricity spending in data centers. The firm is currently focused on power conversion for LED display backlighting and microprocessors for mobile applications such as smartphones, tablets and Ultrabooks. Their technology is highly flexible and management indicate that their technologies will soon be applied to broader applications such as Servers, Storage and Networking, and integrated within processors and ASICs.
