Public Profile

Formerly known as Liquid Metal Battery Corporation (LMBC), Ambri Inc is working to develop and commercialize a new battery technology to offer a low cost electricity storage solution that could change the way electric grids are operated worldwide enabling the more widespread use of renewable generation like wind and solar, reduce power prices and increase system reliability. Ambri’s technology — the liquid metal battery — was invented in the lab of Dr. Donald Sadoway, an MIT professor. The Liquid Metal Battery Project building on the professors’s 40 year's experience working with extreme electrochemical processes, ranging from aluminum smelting, to molten oxide electrolysis for extracting oxygen from lunar regolith, to lithium polymer batteries. This technology could revolutionize grid-scale power storage - wile alos offering the potential of a significantly lower cost than existing batteries. By decoupling power supply and power demand, the liquid metal battery will be a major enabler of the widespread use of sustainable energy sources and the development of more efficient power systems.
