Public Profile

In February 2021 it was announced that Deployable Space Systems (DSS) had been acquired by Redwire. With terms of the deal not disclosed, Redwire was itself formed only in 2020 as a portfolio company of the private equity firm AE Industrial Partners. DSS is the seventh acquisition by Redwire to date (Spring 2021). Very active in the SBIR arena since the firm was formed, DSS specializes in the research, design, development and analysis of innovative mission-enabling deployable space systems (including deployable solar arrays, deployable structural platforms, articulated structures, reflectors and booms), and space subsystems (including high efficiency photovoltaic flexible and rigid blanket/panel assemblies, launch restraint release systems, and complex space mechanisms and actuators.) DSS staff feature a combined 90+ years structural, thermal and composites analysis of deployable systems, as well as, a combined 200+ years solar array, deployable boom, mechanism and composites design.DSS’s facilities are comprised of large high-bay equipment/working areas for prototyping and manufacture/test of flight-like hardware, a 100,000 class clean room area for manufacture/test of flight hardware, and professional working office areas to facilitate design, analysis, meetings, and other professional functions.
