San Francisco, CA (June 2020) -- Somewear Labs, a leader in off-grid communication technology, is proud to receive a Gold Edison Award in innovation for its Somewear satellite communicator. Somewear was chosen as a winner by a panel of over 3,000 leading business executives from around the world that considered the best products, services and businesses in innovation for the year 2020. The coveted award comes as Somewear Labs releases three key product upgrades to its popular, mobile-first satellite communicator for Summer 2020.
Among the first companies to pair a user-friendly mobile interface with the dependability of low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks, Somewear quickly gained favor among off-grid adventurers seeking an additional layer of connectivity. The 2020 Gold Edison Award in the category of Athletics, Sports and Recreation, further validates Somewear Labs innovative mobile design. "By building a mobile-first platform, we've been able to universalize satellite connectivity and enhance peace-of-mind for a wide range of users--hikers and bikers, to trail-runners and road trippers," commented Somewear Labs CEO, James Kubik. "Receiving an Edison Award vindicates our approach and excites us to round-out Somewear's already full-featured satcom experience with new capabilities," Kubik continued.
Due to its mobile based design, Somewear Labs is able to continuously enhance the Somewear product experience with wireless app and firmware updates. "When we first debuted Somewear in 2018 we included the digital essentials of communication. However, Somewear's software-first platform has allowed us to simultaneously build and upload new features based on user feedback," states Kubik. These features include the option to incrementally adjust tracking intervals between 10 minutes and 30 minutes and the ability to toggle location tracking directly from the Somewear device itself.
In advance of Summer 2020, Somewear Labs is excited to announce the addition of three new product features including, Smart Routing, waypoint creation, and public tracking. Smart Routing--a unique, data conserving feature--allows the Somewear mobile app to automatically choose the most efficient network (cellular/wifi/satellite) for data usage. Users that want to save points of interest or share a remote camping spot will value Somewear's new capability to create, name and send waypoints within the mobile map. Lastly, Somewear's new public tracking allows friends and family to follow a Somewear adventure without the need to establish a Somewear account. Public tracking also allows Somewear users the option to upload their progress to a public forum like a blog. Now fans, not just friends and family, can track a thru-hike or ocean crossing.
