There is currently no device/technology that allows for continuous monitoring of brain hemodynamics (blood flow and metabolism) - a deficiency that is particularly crucial in the neonatal ICU where long term negative outcomes such as cerebral palsy and intellectual disability are driven by injuries to the brain due to the immature cardiovascular system and under-/over-treatment. Intended to to reduce disability in preterm newborns patients, the device being developed by 149 Medical is designed to be the first non-invasive monitor that measures real-time brain hemodynamics and metabolism, second by second. The system provides early actionable alerts and continuous feedback allowing for early intervention and treatment monitoring.
