ETI teams up with Reservoir Labs, UIUC, and PNNL to win 3-year funding for crucial research on the system software stack for Exascale computing platforms (X-Stack)

Newark, DE -- November 5, 2012 -- ET International, Inc. (ETI), a leading provider of high-performance system software solutions and customized performance acceleration services for heterogeneous and multi-core/many-core architectures, today announced that it has been awarded from the Department of Energy for the 2012 X-Stack: Programming Challenges, Runtime Systems, and Tools program.

The X-Stack program powered by the Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR), Office of Science, Department of Energy (DOE) is a 3-year program, which started in September 2012. The program is for basic research that targets significant advances in high performance computing (HPC) programming models, languages, compilers, runtime systems, and tools.

"These fundamental advances in the system software stack are needed for transitioning to Exascale computing platforms that are scheduled to arrive later in this decade. Unless these Exascale software stack (X-Stack) challenges are met, existing scientific applications will not be able to fully explore the challenges and rewards of Exascale platforms, which will be three orders of magnitude as powerful as today's fastest supercomputers," said Dr. Sonia Sachs, Program Manager of DOE X-Stack.

In addition to ETI as the lead principal investigator (PI) institution, other partners on the team include Reservoir Labs, the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). The collaboration aims to explore innovation in programming models, compilers, and runtime systems for dynamic adaptive event-driven execution models.

"ETI's proven ability to create highly innovative HPC software solutions, including runtime system technology, has been well recognized by the community and played a major role in winning this important collaborative agreement," said Dr. Rishi Khan, ETI's Vice President of R&D and X-Stack's PI. "We are looking forward to working with the team to explore the challenges of Exascale platforms and find solutions that will address multiple components of the system software stack."
