Organized around making lithium-ion batteries safer and more reliable, Silatronix is developing novel energy storage devices, using its organosilicon electrolyte technology. The firm's electrolytes, based on organic solvents, are non-toxic, low-flammable and can operate at higher temperatures and voltages than current state of the art compounds. With the technology combining expertise in organosilicon compounds with that of nanostructured electrodes and electronic properties of materials, the goal is to expand the use of organosilicon compounds as safe, environmentally friendly electrolytes for use in energy storage devices such as ultracapacitors (electrochemical double-layer capacitors), lithium-ion batteries, and other electrochemical energy storage devices.
