Medennium was formed as a spin off from Pharmacia & Upjohn, where the principals had been with the Center of Excellence for Foldable Intraocular Lenses. Medennium, Inc. designs and manufactures ophthalmic materials and devices providing eye care products, such as SmartPLUG, a device for the treatment of dry eyes that is used to occlude the punctum or tear duct, and conserve the eye's natural tears; Aurium, a colorless lens that restores clear vision to cataract patients; Matrix Acrylic, an intra ocular lens that restores clear vision to cataract patients; SiliconeSQ that provides restoring clear vision to cataract patients; and XSORB, a plug that provides immediate dry eye relief and improves patient comfort. Marketing products through a network of distributors in the United States and internationally, in 2003 Medennium sold the firm's Phakic Refractive Lens (PRL(TM)) product.. to CIBA Vision, the Eye Care affiliate of Swiss-based Novartis. The firm's website waslast updated in Novermber 2016 andit not apparant what happened to the firm.
