Public Profile

Acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2007, Polychromix had been an advanced communications technology company providing modular optical subsystems. The firm’s products were based on an innovative core technologies that enable dynamically configurable optical networks. Principals of the firm described what they were about as developing modular optical subsystems based on an innovative MEMS core technology that was initially developed with over US $8 million in DARPA funding at MIT, Sandia National Labs and Honeywell. The focus of the company had been to provide a full suite of cost-effective material analysis, chemical sensing and spectroscopy solutions. Used in pharmaceutical, polymer recycling, agriculture, forensics and security, and paints and coatings solutions, the firm's material analysis and chemical sensing products include PHAZIR, a near infrared material analyzer for incoming raw material inspection, quality control and assurance, portable field use, counterfeit product ID, at-line process control, and field testing applications. The company also provides LAB POD, a spectrometer for laboratory analysis, quality control, portable in-field, industrial process control, and educational and academic applications; SpectralProbe Series, a generation of on-line NIR process sensors for on-line polymer recycling, real time blending/mixing, conveyor belt analysis of solids, and moisture analysis in fluid bed driers applications.
