Incorporated in 1998 under the name ALD Services, Inc. -changing its name to MicroIslet, Inc. in 2002, the firm was a biotechnology company engaged in the research, development and commercialization of patented technologies in the field of transplantation therapy for patients with diabetes. Falling vicitim to the Great Recession, the company went out of business after Bankrupcy hearings lasting 2008-2011. The company had licensed several technologies from Duke University Medical Center and SRI International andhad developed for the isolation, culture, storage and encapsulation of insulin-producing porcine islet cells.
