NP Photonics, Inc.
,
a leading manufacturer of fiber lasers, fiber
amplifiers and specialty
optical
fiber
,
today
announced that it
will introduce a mid
-
infrared (IR) transport
fiber at
the
Defense, Security
,
and Sensing (DSS) 2013 exhibition from April 30 to May 2, 2013, in
Baltimore, Maryland. Th
e
transport fiber is the first product to be launched from the company
's new
family of mid
-
infrared products.
The fiber offers high transparency across the visible and mid
-
infrared (400 nm to 4500 nm) and has been
designed to be mechanically robust. The fiber is packaged in armored cable and features SMA
connectors and a br
oadband anti
-
reflection (AR) coating.
"
Historically mid
-
infrared fibers have been very fragile and sensitive to moisture,
" said Terry Hannon,
president and
CEO of NP Photonics
. "
As part of a
counterm
easures
development program funded by the
U.S.
Navy
,
we
have designed a new, much stronger glass that does not exhibit the absorption features
around 4000 nm that are associated with chalcogenide glasses
."
The new fiber is ideal for beam delivery in medical applications and is compatible with optical
parametri
c oscillator (OPO) systems and quantum cascade (QC) lasers.
The DSS 2013 exhibition will be held at
The Baltimore
Convention Center
