Agiltron Inc. reports it has landed a Phase 3 Small Business Innovation Research grant from the U.S. Navy for a fiber-optic repair system that would help Navy technicians repair aircraft.

Under the SBIR grant, Woburn-based Agiltron will provide a mechanical fiber-optic splice kit to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, Md. The company said it plans to use the Phase 3 production readiness grant to commercialize the technology.

The company did not disclose the amount of the grant.

The technology is intended to repair a fiber-optic communications link that has been damaged in battle or by wear and tear.

In March, Agiltron landed a $225,000 Phase 2 SBIR grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to develop a hand-held instrument to detect leaks of volatile organic compounds, methane and other greenhouse gases.
