ZEISS announces plans to acquire Xradia

Optics and optoelectronics manufacturer ZEISS on Thursday announced the planned acquisition of the California-based Xradia, Inc. Xradia, an R&D 100 Award-winning company, is known for its innovative 3-D x-ray microscopes for industrial and academic research applications. The closing of the transaction is subject to the fulfillment of customary closing conditions including a required filing with the U.S. competition authorities. After closing, Xradia, Inc. will operate under the new name Carl Zeiss X-ray Microscopy, Inc.

X-ray microscopes help to advance innovation in science and industry and can be used for many applications. During the last years Xradia recorded strong growth in revenue, profits, and number of employees based on its excellent technology position meeting customer needs worldwide. Xradia has become a provider of established solutions for advanced material research, natural resources and geology, semiconductor process optimization as well as the life sciences. Both parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.

ZEISS Microscopy Business Group

The Microscopy business group at ZEISS provides both light and electron microscopes. The company's portfolio enables research and routine applications in the life and materials sciences. The product range includes light and laser scanning microscopes, electron and ion microscopes and spectrometer modules. The business group is headquartered in Jena, Germany, and has around 2,800 employees.

Xradia

Xradia designs and manufactures 3-D X-ray microscopes for industrial and academic research applications. Xradia's solutions offer high contrast and high resolution imaging capabilities for a large range of sample sizes and shapes. Xradia's laboratory product families, the UltraXRM and VersaXRM X-ray microscopes, together offer a multi-length scale solution delivering full volume 3D imaging with resolution down to <50 nm. The company is headquartered in Pleasanton, California.
